Trailblazers' Robison strikes out 10 batters

VINCENNES, Ind. – Freshman pitcher Ryan Robison racked up 10 strikeouts, but the Vincennes University baseball team fell in a 7-6 battle to nationally ranked Parkland in the nightcap of a Mid-West Athletic Conference doubleheader at Jerry Blemker Field on Monday.

In the seven-inning game, Robison went 6.1 innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits and four walks.

The Trailblazers came out of the gate quickly. They raced to 4-0 lead in the first inning.

Parkland scored one run in both the second and third innings.

VU scored again in the fifth and took a 5-2 lead. The Trailblazers maintained that lead heading into the top of the final inning, but Parkland rallied with a five-run inning in the seventh and jumped out front 7-5.

The Trailblazers scored once in the bottom of the seventh inning, but couldn’t get any closer.

VU left 12 runners on base for the game.

Sophomore Tyler Estes finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI.

Robison, sophomore Treven Madden and freshman Max Flock also had one RBI apiece for the Trailblazers.

They were unable to hang on to the one-run lead. The Cobras scored all three of their runs in the top of the seventh inning.

The Trailblazers finished with three hits. They had chances to score. They stranded five runners on base.

VU is 15-10 overall and 4-2 in the MWAC. The Trailblazers play a doubleheader against Parkland on Tuesday at 2 p.m. EDT in Champaign, Illinois.

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
