Trailblazers Rout Lake Land En Route to Perfect 6-0 Start

In their 6th and final game of their impressive home stand, Vincennes University topped Lake Land Community College by shooting nearly lights out from behind the arc on their way to a 107-62 victory at the Vincennes University P.E. Complex.

The VU men’s basketball team got off to a hot start as Sophomore Nate Hansen knocked down an easy triple on their first trip down the floor as part of a 10-2 run by the Trailblazers to start off the game. The three by Hansen started off a hot 5-of-6 start from behind the arc in the first 6 minutes, and they would open a lead as big as 12 before the Lakers managed to storm back and make it a 3 point game, 31-28, with 7:40 remaining in the first half. That was as close as Lake Land would get to taking the lead. The Trailblazers recomposed themselves during the timeout, and used hot shooting to push to an 11 point lead going into the half, 49-38. Vincennes shot a warm 9-of-15 from three point land in the first half, and managed to shoot 50% from the field; all while holding the Lakers to 32% shooting.

Lake Land would score the first bucket out of the locker room, but VU would press down on the accelerator, and open the half on an 18-4 run, blowing the game wide open. The Trailblazers would outscore the Lakers 58-24 in the second half, and would coast to a 45 point margin of victory, 107-62. This game marks the 5th time in the first 6 games of the season that the VU Trailblazers have scored over 100 points in a game.

Leading the way for Vincennes was Sophomore Chris Darrington with 25 points and 5 assists. Fellow back court running mate Nate Hansen added 20 points, and Freshman Rade Kukobat nearly missed pulling down his 2nd consecutive game with a double-double by tallying 11 points and 9 rebounds.

The Vincennes University Men’s Basketball Team returns to action Tuesday, November 22nd in their first road test of the season at Shawnee. The game will begin at 8:30 p.m. Vincennes time.

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
