Trailblazers Steam Roll Lindsey Wilson JV to Return to Winning Ways

After suffering their first loss of the season to district rival John A. Logan over the weekend, the VU men’s basketball team returned to their winning ways with a 112-42 win at the P.E. Complex headlined by a perfect shooting night from Sophomore Chris Darrington & a career night from Freshman Rade Kukobat.

It was evident from the start that VU would come out with intensity and energy to keep a repeat from Saturday from occurring against the Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson JV. On one of the first possessions of the game, Freshman Jamal Bailey drove to the bucket, finished, and was fouled. Bailey would connect on the free-throw to make it 3 points the old fashioned way on the posession. Lindsey Wilson JV would answer with a 3 point basket of their own on the next possession, but after that, VU would go on a 14-0 run, leading to a Blue Raider time out. The run by VU was a foreshadowing of how the rest of the first half, and the entire game would go for both sides. The Trailblazers held their opponent to an ice cold 17% shooting in the first half, and allowed a season low for points in a half with 12. Stifling defense, and a balanced scoring attack allowed Vincennes to take a 55-12 lead into the half. After 1 half of play, Rade Kukobat notched 17 points and 6 rebounds, while the front court duo of Freshman CJ Hedgepeth & Jaelin Sanford tallied 4 first-half assists a piece.

The second half would be much of the same story for the two teams. Tickets were worth the price of admission as the visitors to the VU P.E. Complex were able to get front row seats to the Chris Darrington show. Darrington would score 19 of his game-high 24 points in the second half, and as a team VU would shoot a white-hot 77% from the floor. The Trailblazers also lit the nets on fire from 3, shooting an outstanding 75% in the second half, and connecting on 6-of-8 attempts from further than 20.75 feet. VU’s hot shooting would allow them to stretch out to a comfortable 70 point victory, 112-42, and to move to 11-1 on the season.

On a night full of huge performances, the Trailblazers were lead in scoring by Sophomore Chris Darrington who piled up 24 points in just under 18 minutes played. Darrington shot a perfect 7-of-7 from the field, 4-of-4 from behind the 3-point stripe, and a flawless 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. Freshman Rade Kukobat had a career high 21 points, and lead all players with 8 rebounds. Rounding out huge performances on the night was Freshman Jamal Bailey. Bailey scored 14 points, 1 shy of his career-high, and poked away 5 steals.

The Vincennes University Men’s Basketball Team returns to action Saturday against Western Kentucky Tech at the VU P.E. Complex. Tip-off is at 11 a.m. EST!
