Play for Kay Cancer Awareness

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation, is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause. Kay Yow was a college head coach for 38 years and past president and founding member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Her name is synonymous with North Carolina State. She is a member of the Naismith National Basketball Hall of Fame and achieved more than 700 career victories. Yow was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. She passed away in 2009 after an on-again, off-again battle with the disease.

Trailblazers win in baseball

VINCENNES, Ind. – A big sixth inning pushed the Vincennes University baseball team to a 14-13 win against the Rose-Hulman split squad on Wednesday at Jerry Blemker Field.

The Trailblazers raced to leads of 3-0 and 7-2 in the first two innings. Rose-Hulman held a 9-7 lead in the top of the fourth. VU scored one run to make it 9-8 in the bottom of the fourth and it scored the tying run in the fifth. The Fightin’ Engineers broke the tie in the top of the sixth for a 10-9 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Traiblazers poured on the scoring. They put five runs on the scoreboard. They built a 14-10 advantage and never relinquished the lead.

Three runs in the eighth inning got Rose-Hulman within 14-13.

The Trailblazers pulled out the victory and moved their overall record to 7-6.

VU had several players finish with multiple hits. The Trailblazers racked up 16 hits as a team.

Freshman Sean Becker was 3-for-6, scored three runs, and had a stolen base.  Sophomore Walker Paris drove in two runs, hit 2-for-2 with a triple, and scored two runs. Freshman Ryan Robison was 2-for-2 with a double and had a RBI. Sophomore Caden Oliver hit two doubles, was 2-for-2 and scored one run. Freshman Trent Weiss collected two RBIs.

The winning pitcher was freshman Nate Toone. He improved his record to 2-0 with four strikeouts, one hit and one walk over 2.2 innings. He allowed one earned run.

Sophomore Isaiah Davis earned the save. He faced two batters and struck out one.

Scholarship Fund

Trailblazer Scholarship Fund - The VU Foundation awarded a record $1.4 million scholarship dollars of VU Foundation and University funds for the 2015-2016 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  

These included awards to students from 10 states across the country and 4 international awards.  

Currently the VU Foundation manages over 540 scholarship and department funds, with 259 new funds created in just the last 10 years.
