Vincennes University adds volleyball player

VINCENNES, Ind. – Vincennes University volleyball coach Gary Sien has signed Allyson Kuhl (Newton Community High School/Newton, Illinois) to play for the Trailblazers in 2020.

Kuhl, a 6-foot middle blocker and opposite hitter, helped Newton to a 28-9 overall record, an 8-0 Little Illini Conference record and a regional championship match. She played in every match and collected 120 kills along with 78 blocks (59 solo). She appeared on the Little Illini Conference first team. She received all-tournament honors at the Pana/Shelbyville Invitational and Edwards County Tournament. She has been selected to play in the Red, White and Blue Senior Volleyball All-Star Game later this month in Fairfield, Illinois.

“We see Allyson as a big contributor in the front row with her blocking and hitting skill sets,” Sien said. “She is versatile enough to switch to the right side and play in six rotations as she possesses good ball control and serving skills, which will assist her in doing that. We are enthused to have Allyson in the fold as she was one of our early commitments.

“We will lose quite a few front row players from the 2019 team and Allyson is one of several we have recruited to fill those open spots. The major challenge for us is to duplicate the blocking success we possessed in 2019.”

Kuhl has earned high honors all four years. She is also in a selective CEO class in Jasper County. She will major in pre-occupational therapy.

“I’m very excited to watch Ally excel at the next level,” Newton High School coach Jill Kistner said. “She is very dynamic and explosive athlete. She has a true love of the sport and has an infectious personality. I look forward to watching her play at a higher level.”
