Vincennes Men’s Basketball Team Stays Undefeated with Pair of Wins at Sodexo Classic

The #22 ranked Trailblazers picked up a pair of hard fought wins in the Sodexo Classic by attempting 38 or more free throws in each game, in what were a pair of very physical games against Don Bosco Prep & Harcum.

On Friday, the Vincennes University Trailblazers squared off with a Don Bosco Prep team that had plenty of size and had been known for a very physical style of play. The first half was a showing of defense, as Vincennes held Don Bosco to a mere of 8-of-22 shooting from the field. VU took a 25-24 lead in to the locker room at the half.

The second half was much of the same story as the first, as physical play, lock down defense, and getting to the foul line were the main headlines. VU managed to force Don Bosco Prep into a few late turnovers, and hit free throws down the stretch to pull out a 71-68 victory.

The Trailblazers were led in scoring by Sophomore Chris Darrington who deposited 22 points in 22 minutes of play. Fellow backcourt running mate Isiah Tisdale added 20 points, along with going 9-of-12 from the charity stripe.

VU would use the momentum from a hard fought win on day one of the Sodexo Classic as they headed into day two against a Harcum team that again, had plenty of length, would be very athletic, and would be a good match up with the Trailblazers

The first half proved to be a back and forth offense display as both teams managed to shoot nearly 50% from the field, and over 70% from the free throw line; however, despite a good first half from Harcum, Vincennes was able to take a 1 point lead, 50-49 into the half.

VU came out of the locker room in the second half ready to make a statement. They managed to attack the rim time and time again, resulting in VU getting to the free throw line an astounding 35 times in the second half. When they made it to the free throw line, they took full advantage, hitting 30 of their 35 free throws. In what was a tight back and forth game down the stretch, VU turned up the defense late, and sunk key free throws over the last several minutes to edge out a 114-105 win over Harcum in their second and final game of the Sodexo Classic.

Sophomore Chris Darrington again led all scorers with 35 points, and was a near perfect 15-of-16 from the foul line. Also, Freshman Isiah Tisdale knocked down 30 points, while also adding an impressive 10-of-13 from the free throw stripe. Other impressive performances for the Trailblazers on the night included a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds for Freshman Rade Kukobat, and a game high 7 blocks for Sophomore Romaro Gill!

The Men’s Basketball Team will return to action Wednesday, at the VU P.E. Complex, at 7:00 p.m. against Lakeland. Come out and support your Trailblazers!
