Vincennes University baseball get the win in extra innings to sweep the weekend

Vincennes, Ind. - Vincennes University baseball hosted Milwaukee Area Tech for the second game of the series, and the fourth game for the Blazers of the weekend. The Blazers managed to pull off the extra innings win to bring the season record to 3-2 and complete the weekend sweep.

With VU down 11-12 in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Blazers strung together 3 at bats to load the bases allowing sophomore Trent Weiss to take the walk and send the game in to extra innings. In the bottom of the 11th with the score tied 12-12, freshman Eli Winkler walked on with freshman Gage Wilson laying down a sac bunt to advance him to second, setting up Weiss to hit a walk off home run ending the game 14-12.

Sophomore RHP Ryan Robison pitched the first three innings of the game, allowing no runs, and only giving up one hit. Freshman Eli Winkler pitched 2.1 innings giving up 1 hit, allowing no runs, and walking one. This secures Winkler’s first collegiate career win.

Sophomore Trent Weiss had 4 at bats with a double, home run, two walks, and 5 RBIs. Freshman McCaine Claycomb went 2-5 with a double. Sophomore Ryan Robison went 2-4, with 2 singles, and 2 RBIs. Freshman Nate McVaigh went 3-5, with an RBI, and a solo home run.

VU Head Coach Chris Barney says. . .

“It was a really good weekend, our guys played hard for us. They battled to get two come from behind victories. Hopefully we can continue to play like this. We fought back from an 8-3 deficit at one point yesterday, and that really shows the resilience that this group of guys is capable of.”
