Vincennes University hosts North/South Indiana All-Star Classic on April 24

An elite group of the state's 2015-2016 seniors will participate in the 28th annual North/South Indiana All-Star Classic.

This girls’ and boys’ doubleheader will be played at Vincennes University on Sunday, April 24. The games will be at 2 p.m. (girls) and 4 p.m. (boys). The North/South Indiana All-Star Classic is sponsored by Hoosier Basketball Magazine and Pacesetter Sports of Terre Haute.

Twenty-four girls compete in the first half of this doubleheader highlighted by 2016 Naismith Prep Player of the Year, Jackie Young of Princeton. Other featured performers include 2016 AAA IHSAA State Champion Tyasha Harris of Heritage Christian and AA IHSAA State Champion Cameron Onken, Lafayette Central Catholic as well as 2016 AAAA state runner-up Paige Littrell of Columbus North.

The North/South girls also have plenty of Division I talent in Young, Princeton (Notre Dame); Kaylan Coffman, Benton Central (Evansville); Lauren Dickerson, Lawrence North (Miami of Ohio); Holly Hoopingarner, Greenwood (IUPUI); Katelyn O'Reilly, Noblesville (Florida Atlantic); Onken, Lafayette Central Catholic (Villanova); Lauren Rau, Center Grove (Lipscomb); Tyana Robinson, Pike (Florida Atlantic); Jayla Scaife, Muncie Central (Dayton); Alexis Shannon, Noblesville (Florida Atlantic); Sydney Shelton, Mt. Vernon-Fortville (Butler); Kristen Spolyar, Lebanon (Butler) and Emily Sullivan, Evansville Memorial (North Carolina). The North girls will be coached by Muncie Central's Lisa Blalock. Princeton coach Charles Mair will lead the South girls.

Twenty-four boys compete in the second game featured by Indiana University signee Grant Gelon of Crown Point. Four other Division I recruits are Joey Brunk, Southport (Butler); Parker Chitty, Columbus East (Eastern Kentucky); Dru Smith, Evansville Reitz (Evansville) and Jordan Walker, Indianapolis Cathedral (Morehead State).

There are many high-scoring boys, including six players that averaged 20 ppg or more. They are Desmond Bane, Seton Catholic (30.3 ppg); Marcus Burk, Franklin Central (24.8); KC Earls, Mooresville (22); John Kiser, Noblesville (21.2); Hunter Crist, Hamilton Heights (20) and Devan Straub, Evansville Mater Dei (20). The North boys will be led by Brian McCauley, Noblesville. Evansville Reitz's Michael Adams will coach the South.

The 2016 Classic Game Director is Vincennes University Athletic Director Harry Meeks.

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.

Trailblazer Scholarship fund - The VU foundation awarded $970,242.80 scholarship dollars of the VU Foundation and University funds for the 2017-18 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  These included awards to students from 8 states across the country and 3 international awards.

The VU Foundation currently manages over 525 scholarship and department funds, with 247 news funds created in just the last 9 years.
