Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers Win Back-And-Forth Battle Against State Fair Community College

Sedalia, MO-Freshman Marquitta Easley ultimately ended the game with 5 clutch late game free throws. Easley ended up leading Vincennes with 22 points, as the Lady Trailblazers went on to an 87-82 victory over State Fair College.

Going into half-time with a 42-38 lead, Vincennes found themselves locked in a battle with the Lady Roadrunners. The third quarter saw VU go on a 16-6 run, leading to their largest lead of the night of 14 points. Freshmen Marquitta Easley and Janiya Davis, along with sophomore Mykel Roth helped the Lady Trailblazers keep their lead through the fourth quarter with each of the 3 women scoring 7 points each. Vincennes also put on a defensive showing also, forcing State Fair to commit 30 turnovers in the game.

Roth finished the game with 15 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Sophomore Ladellia Maggett was the third Lady Trailblazer to finish with double-figures in points, with 12 points, 7 steals, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

The Lady Trailblazers are headed back home this weekend as they look to take continue their winning ways when the take on Olney Central College as part of a men’s and women’s double-header. The VU women’s game will start the night’s action with a 5 p.m. eastern tip-off, and men’s game to follow.

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.

The VU Foundation currently manages over 525 scholarship and department funds, with 247 news funds created in just the last 9 years.
