Vincennes University men’s basketball climb to No. 12 in the latest NJCAA DI rankings

VINCENNES, Ind. – The Vincennes University men’s basketball team has climbed to No.12 from No.14 in the latest NJCAA DI rankings released on February 24.

This new ranking comes after the Blazers two comfortable road wins last week, against Lake Land 100-59, and Shawnee 82-44.

VU received 221 points in the new rankings, up from 185 last week.

The top 10 teams are: Florida SouthWestern State (397), Pearl River (379), Ranger (361), Indian Hills (354), Mineral Area (332), Tyler (324), Salt Lake (306), Clarendon (263), Northern Oklahoma Tonkawa (243), and Tallahassee (274).

VU (24-4) have two remaining games left in the season, both set to be played at home. The Blazers will host Lewis & Clark Mon. Feb. 24 at 7 PM EST, and then host the final regular season game against Southwestern Illinois on Wed. Feb. 26 at 7 PM EST. Both games will be played in the P.E. Complex.

The Vincennes University women's team remain unranked having received one vote in the poll, down from five last week despite an 86-54 road win against Shawnee on Saturday.

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.

Trailblazer Scholarship fund - The VU foundation awarded $970,242.80 scholarship dollars of the VU Foundation and University funds for the 2017-18 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  These included awards to students from 8 states across the country and 3 international awards.

The VU Foundation currently manages over 525 scholarship and department funds, with 247 news funds created in just the last 9 years.
