Vincennes University receives at-large bid to NJCAA Division I men’s basketball national tournament

VINCENNES, Ind. -  Vincennes University, the reigning NJCAA Division I men’s basketball champion, is headed back to the national tournament.

VU has received an at-large bid and a No. 10 seed in the 2019-2020 NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship March 16-21 in Hutchinson, Kan. This marks a record eight consecutive national tournament appearances for the Trailblazers.

VU (28-5) will start off the tournament in a first-round game against No. 23 seed Central Georgia Tech (23-10) on Monday, March 16 at 5:30 p.m. EDT.

The winner of this first-round game will take on No. 7 seed USC Salkehatchie (27-4) on March 17 at 9:30 p.m. EDT.

The Blazers received an at-large bid to the tournament last season and went on to win the national championship. They are looking to do the same this year.

VU Coach Todd Franklin says. . .

“You know I think that we have a chance to get out of our pod in the bracket, but you never really know what these teams are truly going to play like until you get there. The times are looking great for the bracket, we’ll have a day off if we advance, and most teams aren’t really afforded that opportunity. We’ll see how we’re playing when we get there. There have been times this season where we’ve played like defending national champions who could beat anyone in the country, and times where we just haven’t had our minds right. We’re going to be working on that a lot this week and making sure we’re ready going in to this thing. We’ve been extremely difficult to beat this season when we’re there, so we have a pretty good idea of what it takes. I think we can put that together this time. It’s just going to be up to the young men and if they want it bad enough.”
