Vincennes University volleyball adds to 2020 class

VINCENNES, Ind. – The Vincennes University volleyball recruiting class continues to grow as VU coach Gary Sien has signed Kylie Giesler (Forest Park High School/Ferdinand, Ind.).

Giesler is a 5-foot-10 opposite hitter and setter. She tallied 644 set assists, 401 digs, 71 blocks, 60 kills, 36 aces over 92 sets in 26 matches last season. She totaled 1,647 assists for her career. Giesler is a three-time All-Pocket Athletic Conference selection and a three-time Team Most Valuable Player.

“Kylie is one of the most versatile athletes we have coming in,” Sien said. “She is capable of running a high-level offense as a setter, she can play good back row defense, she can serve strongly and she can hold her own at the net as a blocker and attacker. Potentially, she can be utilized in either a 5-1 (one setter) or 6-2 (two setter) offense, and play in six rotations for both.

“We like Kylie’s overall abilities. We believe that with hard work, she can learn the nuances of our offense and excel in it.”

Giesler has earned academic awards, including National Honor Society, BETA Club and All-Academic PAC. She will major in agribusiness.

“Kylie is the type of player that any coach would want on their team,” Forest Park High School coach Alexa Rasche said. “Not only is she a hard worker and a talented volleyball player, but she is an intelligent and versatile athlete. Kylie ran the floor for us as a setter throughout high school, but she is capable of playing any position on the court. She is a true utility player an could step into any position for the Trailblazers with ease and confidence.

“The Forest Park Rangers are extremely proud of Kylie and wish her all the best at Vincennes University.”

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
