Vincennes University women’s basketball posts 13th consecutive victory

OLNEY, Ill. - The Vincennes University women’s basketball team defeated Olney Central College 90-63 on Wednesday to extend their winning streak to 13 games.

The Trailblazers upped their overall record to 16-3. VU hasn’t lost a game since Nov. 15, 2019 when it fell to Moberly Area 76-71.

VU Statistical Leaders

All five starters scored in double figures against Olney Central.

Sophomore Jhala Henry (Jeffersonville, Ind.) rang up 23 points, including five 3-pointers. She added five rebounds, three steals, two assists and one block.

Sophomore Fess Hawkins (Bentonville, Ark.) contributed 17 rebounds, 16 points, three assists, one steal and one block.

Freshman Amani Brown (Terre Haute, Ind.) tallied 15 points, seven assists, three steals, two rebounds and one block.

Sophomore Jaynice Stovall (Covington, Ky.) finished with 14 points, four assists, two steals and two rebounds.

Freshman Elena Aznar Chamarro (Zaragoza, Spain) recorded 11 points, four steals, four rebounds and one block.


  • The Trailblazers are first in NJCAA Division I in points per game (89.9) and points (1,709).
  • Hawkins leads NJCAA Division I in field goal percentage (68.0) and ranks fifth in rebounds per game (14.3).
  • Henry ranks seventh in the nation with 4.1 steals per game. She ranks 19th in points per game (19.8).
  • VU pulled away from Olney Central in the second half. The Blazers were up 43-35 at halftime. They outscored the Knights 23-12 in the third quarter for a 66-47 lead.

Next up

The Trailblazers play Shawnee (Ill). on Jan. 11 at the P.E. Complex. Tip-off is 5 p.m. EST. VU has a 7-0 record at home this season.

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.

Trailblazer Scholarship fund - The VU foundation awarded $970,242.80 scholarship dollars of the VU Foundation and University funds for the 2017-18 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  These included awards to students from 8 states across the country and 3 international awards.

The VU Foundation currently manages over 525 scholarship and department funds, with 247 news funds created in just the last 9 years.
