Volleyball player Lucie Strasser signs with Central Methodist

VINCENNES, Ind. – Vincennes University sophomore Lucie Strasser has signed a letter of intent to continue her volleyball career at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Missouri.

Strasser is joining a program that advanced to the 2018 NAIA National Tournament, won a Heart of America Athletic Conference South Division Championship, finished as runner-up in the conference tournament and produced a 32-8 record.

“We are very excited to have Lucie join our Eagle Family,” Central Methodist University volleyball coach Allison Jones-Olson said. “She does a great job running the court as a setter and has a great platform for defense. We are also excited that she will bring her enthusiasm for the game and her experience from her two-year college.”

During the Trailblazers' 2018 season, the 5-foot-9 Strasser recorded a team-leading 732 assists for an average of 5.34 per set. She also had 347 digs.

Strasser, who is from Melk, Austria, transferred to VU from Casper (Wyoming) College.

“She is a very fine defensive player,” VU volleyball coach Gary Sien. “She has a background back in Austria where she played some two-man ball, so she’s a very good defensive player.

“When these schools were recruiting her, they said not only was she a fine setter, but she was an exceptional defensive player. That is not always the case with some players in that position.”

Central Methodist meets Strasser’s exact educational needs. She wants to become a chiropractor.

During a visit, she interacted with her future teammates.

“I practiced with them,” Strasser said. “They were really open. They were really nice girls.”

Strasser added.

“It’s a smaller school, but they’re really into sports,” she said. “Since the school is not big and there are so many sports, almost everyone there who I met was an athlete and that is really cool.”

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
