VU atop Day 1 leaderboard at NJCAA Div. III Golf National Championship

CHAUTAUQUA, NY – The Vincennes University Golf Team was atop the team standings and sophomore Jacob Bartley, individually, was locked in a five-way tie for sixth place after the first round of play Tuesday at the NJCAA Div. III Golf National Championship in Chautauqua, NY.

Bartley turned in a first round score of 74 (35, 39) to lead the Trailblazers to a team score of 303 after the first day. That placed VU - the 2013 NJCAA National Champion - three strokes ahead of second place Georgia Northwestern Tech (306).

Tournament host Jamestown finished Day 1 in a tie with Minnesota State for third with team scores of 307 while Madison rounded out the Top 5 at 314.

The remainder of the field was as follows after Round 1:
·    Nassau, sixth place (319),
·    Monroe, seventh place (324),
·    Sandhills, T-eighth place (327),
·    Anne Arundl, T-eighth place (327),
·    Community College of Rhode Island, 10th place (337),
·    Bucks County, 11th place (339),
·    Camden County, 12th place (341).

As expected, early in the event, many golfers were bunched together in scoring and a wealth of tie scores existed when the teams headed to the clubhouse after Day 1. In addition to Bartley being tied up for sixth place, the other VU golfers were also among company on the scoreboard. The other four Trailblazers finished the first round as follows:
·    Cameron Weyer, T-11th place (37-38, 75),
·    Joe Davis, T-15th place (36-41, 77),
·    Blake Claycomb, T-15th place (35-42, 77), and,
·    Ian Weyer, T-20th place (38-40, 78).
