VU Baseball announces weather-related schedule changes

Vincennes University Baseball Coach Chris Barney has announced the team’s weather-related changes in the schedule for this week and the approaching weekend.

The changes are:

  • Tuesday’s scheduled game at Wabash Valley in Mt. Carmel, IL, has been postponed and rescheduled as as part of a doubleheader on March 17. First pitch for Game 1 in that twinbill will be at 4 p.m. (EST or “Vincennes time”).
  • This weekend's games involving four teams (VU, Henry Ford, Kaskaskia and Triton) at Jerry Blemker Field (Friday-Sunday, Feb. 27-March 1) have been cancelled and will not be made up.
  • Barney said VU has now scheduled a three-game series for Friday and Saturday at Wallace State-Hanceville in Hanceville, Ala. On Friday, VU will play a doubleheader, starting at 4 p.m. (EST). Saturday’s action will be a nine-inning game with first pitch at 1 p.m. (EST).

**Parents and others considering traveling to Hanceville for this weekend’s newly-scheduled games should note:

VU and Wallace State-Hanceville will make final decision on the trip about 12 p.m. Noon Thursday. As of today, the weather forecast in the Hanceville area calls for one-to-three inches of snow on Wednesday. Barney said Friday temperatures in Hanceville are expected to reach the low 40s and Saturday calls for a high temperature of about 50 but Hanceville has a 50 percent chance of rain that day.

If additional schedule changes come about, information will be posted on www.govutrailblazers.com and on VU Athletics social media sites.

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
