VU Baseball gives up early lead, drops 7-4 decision at Danville Area CC

DANVILLE, Ill. – Vincennes University sophomore Lance Myers and freshman Lane Dransfield had two hits each and sophomores Jake Carey and Kaleb Waller both drove in runs Wednesday for the VU Baseball Team but the Trailblazers let an early 4-1 lead evaporate and dropped a 7-4 decision at Danville Area Community College.

The Trailblazers got out to a 2-0 advantage with a pair of runs in the top of the second. Over that same stretch, VU sophomore starter Mitchell Lawson was posting zeroes across the board against DACC. However, the host Jaguars cut the lead in half with a run in the bottom of the third inning off VU freshman Bryant Jackson. After VU added two runs in the fourth, Danville Area plated four runners in the bottom of the frame to go up 5-4.

VU (15-19) was unable to push any more runs home, but DACC scored a pair of insurance runs in the seventh for the final score.

The Trailblazers had eight hits, but were out-hit by the Jaguars’ 12 base hits. Myers was 2-for-5 and Dransfield finished 2-for-2 on the day. Carey was 1-for-3.

VU will be back on the road Friday at North Central College in Naperville, IL, for a 4 p.m. game. Then, on Saturday, the Trailblazers will send split-squads to South Suburban in South Holland, IL, to face South Suburban at 11 a.m. and Kankakee at 1:30 p.m. VU will stay in the area to play South Suburban as a complete roster at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

VU returns home on Tuesday to host Olney Central in a nine-inning game with the first pitch at 6 p.m.
