VU Baseball’s Lance Myers named to NJCAA Region 12 First Team

Vincennes University third baseman Lance Myers was named to the NJCAA All-Region 12 First Team for 2015 after he helped lead the Trailblazers (27-24) to the championship game of the Region 12 Sub-District Tournament.
Only 12 infielders were chosen from throughout the region for the honor.
“Lance did a great job for us and he put up great numbers for his two years in our program,” VU Coach Chris Barney said. “He helped solidify the middle of our batting order. Last year, he helped us get to the (NJCAA Div. II) World Series; this year, he helped us get going and rebound from a slow start.
The 5-11, 215-pound Myers hit .356 with two home runs and 41 runs batted in. He also recorded a .448 slugging percentage and put together a .431 on-base percentage. In addition, Myers had 62 total hits (including six doubles and two triples), scored 37 runs, walked 22 times and stole three bases.
One of Myers’ homers came on May 2 in a VU win at Illinois Central when he was 3-for-5 with the roundtripper, a triple, four RBI and two runs scored. He had eight games with at least three hits and he was 4-for-4 with two runs knocked in and a pair of runs scored when VU routed South Suburban, 13-3, on March 22.
Defensively, the Evansville native and Reitz High School product finished his sophomore VU season with a .928 fielding percentage. He hadn’t played third base regularly until his arrival with the Trailblazer program.
As a freshman in 2014, Myers hit .410 with a .556 slugging percentage in 60 games as the Trailblazers reached the NJCAA Div. II World Series for the second time. He had 84 hits, scored 56 times and drove in 60 runs while roping 13 doubles and legging out seven triples during his first VU campaign.
Myers will continue his collegiate baseball career at NCAA Div. II Ashland University next season.
“Ashland is getting a nice player in Lance (as well as VU infielder/pitcher Brad Hartman, who also signed with the Eagles) and we wish him all the best as he continues on the field and in the classroom,” Barney said.

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
