VU cheer and dance squads release 2016-17 tryout dates, other information

The Vincennes University Cheer and Dance Teams will hold tryouts for the 2016-17 school year on Aug. 28 at the VU P.E. Complex.

  • The VU Dance Team tryouts will be at 10 a.m. in the P.E. Complex's dance studio on the building's lower level and participants must bring two letters of recommendation, a VU class schedule and a head-and-shoulders photo. Required attire includes jazz shoes, tights or leggings and a tanktop. Hair must be contained in a proper manner.

Prospective dance team members must attend two of the three workshops that will be held throughout the summer. Workshop dates and times will be posted and e-mailed by May 31. The workshops will teach jazz and hip-hop routines that will be performed at the tryouts.

  • The VU Cheer Team tryouts will be at 3 p.m. on the P.E. Complex's East Upper Deck and participants must bring two letters of recommendation and class schedule to the tryout. Clean cheer attire, a hair bow and cheer shoes are required.

All VU students trying out for the cheer team must attend two of the three summer workshops and be able to perform a back-handspring that is the minimal skill for tumbling (the team will accept only two non-tumbling athletes).

Play4Kay

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
