VU dismantles Lindsey Wilson, 110-56, behind Groves' double-double

Sophomore Darren Groves came off the bench to post a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds in the first half and then built on both totals throughout the second half Tuesday night in leading the Vincennes University Men's Basketball Team to a 110-56 dismantling of visiting Lindsey Wilson.

Groves finished with 22 points and 15 rebounds to lead a balanced VU attack that also included freshman guard Nate Hansen's 15 points, 14 points from freshman guard Calvin Kintu, 12 from sophomore center Makur Puou and 11 from freshman guard Jeremiah Bell. Every active VU player scored in the game as the Trailblazers notched their ninth consecutive victory.

The game was never in doubt for the Trailblazers (11-3) who shot 57 percent from the floor and 64 percent from 3-point range, while dominating the boards by a 45-17 margin over the Blue Raiders. In addition, VU hit 21-of-23 from the free throw line, including 4-for-4 performances at the stripe by Groves, Puou and freshman guard Chris Darrington.

Sophomore forward Justin King pulled down eight rebounds and Puou hauled in six boards.

VU led 52-26 at halftime.

The Trailblazers will travel to Lewis & Clark on Saturday for the final game of the 2015 portion of the 2015-16 schedule. Following that contest, VU will be idle until after New Year's.

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
