VU Golf wins 2nd straight event with victory at Rose-Hulman Invitational

TERRE HAUTE – The Vincennes University Golf Team continued its cold-weather winning ways when the Trailblazers claimed the Rose-Hulman Invitational Sunday at the Hulman Links Golf Course in Terre Haute, IN.
VU turned in a two-round total score of 605, topping second place Mount St. Joseph's 611, third place Rose-Hulman's 636, fourth place Thomas More's 637 and fifth place Hanover's score of 640.
VU’s Jacob Bartley, who carded scores of 73 and 74, locked up in a two-hole playoff to determine the individual medalist on Sunday. He and Mount St. Joseph's Eric Hensler had finished with total scores of 147 each but Hensler claimed the individual title after the playoff.
Still, VU had the second place, third place and fourth place finishers in Bartley, Austin Leonard (75, 75) and Cameron Weyer (78, 75), respectively. Also, VU's Alex Halter (74, 82) finished in a tie for sixth place.
The other teams in the Rose-Hulman event were North Central, Wabash College, Lincoln Trail, Judson and Anderson.
“People may not understand just how good these scores are under these conditions,” VU Coach Dennis Chattin said of the Trailblazers’ performance in windy, cold weather. “This is a tough golf course and, to play it this well with the wind and cold for two days, takes a lot of concentration and determination. This is a great win for this team.”
The victory came on the heels of VU winning the Brescia University Invitational Thursday and Friday at Christmas Lake Golf Course in Santa Claus, IN.
The Trailblazers maintained their first day lead in the Brescia event to outdistance second place Kentucky Wesleyan. Chattin was proud of and very pleased with his team's performance on the Santa Claus course as well.
"The tournament was held under tough conditions," he said after the Brescia Invitational win was in VU’s hands Friday. "Thursday's round was wet, windy and cold. Friday's round was really cold and windy... even some snow.”
Trailblazer Cameron Weyer's performance on the second day grabbed the Brescia tournament champion honors. VU’s Palmer Hill finished third. Bartley had led at the end of the first day of play at the Brescia Invitational. He finished fourth).

VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
