VU Men's Basketball Jamboree field will include 7 NJCAA Region 24 members

The Vincennes University Men's Basketball Team will welcome several NJCAA programs and several top prep school basketball programs among the 28 teams making up the field of the VU Jamboree, beginning at 12 p.m. Noon Sunday at the Vincennes University Physical Education Complex, adjacent Bell Student Recreation Center and nearby Beless Gymnasium. Admission for the entire day of games - with the afternoon's final games tipping off at about 5 p.m. - is $5.

In addition to providing fans and coaches from a variety of collegiate basketball levels an opportunity to choose from seven games going on at all times, the jamboree is also VU's first pre-season tune-up before the Trailblazers tip off the 2016-17 campaign on Nov. 1 vs. Indiana Elite Prep at the VU P.E. Complex.

Seven of the NJCAA teams participating in the jamboree will be from Illinois-based Region 24 and the Trailblazers' regular season schedule. The Region 24/District 16 squads are Kaskaskia, Lake Land, Lincoln Trail, Olney Central, Shawnee, Southeastern Illinois and Southwestern Illinois.

The jamboree's list of teams also includes the NJCAA's Danville Area, Lincoln, Malcolm X, Parkland, Rend Lake, Rock Valley, South Suburban, Triton and Volunteer State. Prep programs include Gateway Prep, Indiana Elite Prep, Kingston Prep, Midwest Elite Prep and Three Kings Prep.

VU's action in this year's edition of the annual event will begin with a 12 p.m. game vs. Danville Area on the P.E. Complex's main floor. The Trailblazers return to action at 2 p.m. against Triton (also on the P.E. Complex main floor) and VU will conclude its jamboree games with a 4 p.m. contest matching up with Kennedy-King on the Bell Student Recreation Center's Court No. 1.

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
