VU Men’s Basketball Team Outlasts Kaskaskia in Tough Road Battle to Remain Unbeaten

Kaskaskia, IL – The Men’s Trailblazer basketball team came into Kaskaskia with a perfect 7-and-0 record, and fresh off of a thrilling overtime win at Shawnee over Thanksgiving break. Going in, Kaskaskia had 7-and-1 record on the year, had some decent wins on their resume as well, and as luck would have it, the match-up between the Trailblazers and the Blue Devils would come right down to the wire to determine a winner.

In the first half, Vincennes managed to attack the basket well, as they got to the line 14 times in the first half, double what Kaskaskia would manage over that period.  Despite effectively attacking the basket, VU still trailed by 4 at the half.

In what would be a hard fought, physical, second half, VU managed to outscore the Blue Devils 40-36. Despite outscoring Kaskaskia in the second half, and what had been a thrilling two halves of play, two would not be enough to determine the winner, as both squads were deadlocked at 68 at the end of regulation. It would take overtime to determine a victor.

In overtime, the trailblazers got to the line 7 times, and converted 6 of those 7 times during the period. The Blazers muscled out a 79-76 win by outscoring Kaskaskia 11-8 during extra time, on their way to improving to 8-0, and remaining unbeaten on the year.

Leading the way for the Trailblazers at Kaskaskia were a pair of sophomores in Romaro Gill and Nate Hansen. Gill totaled 11 points, 13 rebounds, and 7 blocks, while Hansen added a game high 23 points. Freshman Isaiah Tisdale also had another solid outing, scoring 15 points, and assisting on 5 baskets for VU.

The Trailblazers will return to action this Friday and Saturday at the Indian Hills Community College Classic. Their first game will be Friday night at 8:00 p.m. against Indian Hills. Their second game of the tournament, Saturday, Against William Penn, will be played at 4:00 p.m. All times listed are Eastern Standard Time.

He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
