VU plays doubleheader against Lewis and Clark

VINCENNES, Ind. – The Vincennes University baseball team was back in action on Monday with a Mid-West Athletic Conference doubleheader against Lewis and Clark at Jerry Blemker Field.

VU lost narrowly 5-3 in the first game and fell 6-1 in the second game.

In Game One, the home team scored twice in the bottom of the first inning to make it 3-2. Lewis and Clark scored two runs in the fifth. VU scored its third run in the sixth inning.

Freshman Ryan Robison went 2-for-4 and drove in a run. Sophomore Will Randell also had a RBI.

Freshman Kacey Cheek struck out five and allowed two runs on three hits. He walked five in four innings. Sophomore Luke Lancaster gave up zero runs on two hits over five innings. He fanned four batters.

In Game Two, VU scored its sole run in the seventh inning.

Sophomore Walker Paris hit 2-for-3. Robison produced the sole RBI.

On the mound, Robison had two strikeouts and three walks in 2.2 innings. He allowed six runs on six hits.

VU owns an 18-21 overall record and is 6-12 in the conference.

It plays a doubleheader against Lewis and Clark on Tuesday. First pitch is at 11:30 a.m. EDT at Jerry Blemker Field.

Play4Kay

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.

NJCAA spring sport cancellation

The NJCAA announced on March 16 the cancellation of all spring sport competition and all upcoming basketball championships, effective immediately, due to the evolving COVID-19 situation. Spring competition includes all practices, regular season, postseason, and national championship play.

Trailblazer Scholarship fund - The VU foundation awarded $970,242.80 scholarship dollars of the VU Foundation and University funds for the 2017-18 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  These included awards to students from 8 states across the country and 3 international awards.

The VU Foundation currently manages over 525 scholarship and department funds, with 247 news funds created in just the last 9 years.
