VU routs Kentucky Wesleyan, 126-33, for 1st win of the season

OLNEY, Ill. – The Vincennes University Men’s Basketball Team got into the win column in a big way Friday night when the Trailblazers (1-2) blew out Kentucky Wesleyan, 126-33, after posting a 61-11 halftime score.

The victory came in the first game of the Olney Central College Rotary Classic.

VU’s offensive explosion got a career-high 20 points from sophomore Stuart Jackson and double-doubles in points and rebounds from sophomores Makur Puou and Darren Groves. In addition to Groves’ 12 points and 14 rebounds and Puou’s 11 points and 11 boards, freshmen Nate Hansen and Chris Darrington scored 15 each, while freshman Theo Holloway finished with 13 and freshman Calvin Kintu had 10.

The Trailblazers return to Olney on Saturday to take on Elizabethtown Tech on the event’s second night. VU and Elizabethtown Tech will tip off at 6:30 p.m. (Vincennes time)

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.

Scholarship Fund

Trailblazer Scholarship fund - The VU foundation awarded $970,242.80 scholarship dollars of the VU Foundation and University funds for the 2017-18 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  These included awards to students from 8 states across the country and 3 international awards.

The VU Foundation currently manages over 525 scholarship and department funds, with 247 news funds created in just the last 9 years.
