VU track & field teams claim No. 8 spots in both NJCAA national polls

NEW ORLEANS – The Vincennes University Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Teams hold the No. 8 spot in both national polls, which were released earlier this week.

The Trailblazer men moved up from 14th in the previous rankings, while the VU women formerly 10th in the National Team Computer Rankings for NJCAA Indoor Track & Field.

The second polls of the indoor season find Iowa Central holding on to the top spot on the men’s side. In the women’s latest rankings, New Mexico moved up from the national runner-up position in the season’s inaugural list last week. VU has competed in three non-team scored meets thus far this season. The Trailblazers are idle until the Feb. 12 and 13 Grand Valley State Big Meet in Allendale, MI.

Completing the NJCAA Top 10 after top-ranked Iowa Central for the men this week are:
·    2. Iowa Western,
·    3. Barton County,
·    4. Coffeyville,
·    5. Butler,
·    6. South Plains,
·    7. Hinds,
·    8. VU,
·    9. Johnson County, and,
·    10. Central Arizona.

The rest of the latest women’s NJCAA Top 10 is as follows:
·    2. Iowa Central,
·    3. Monroe,
·    4. Iowa Western,
·    5. Barton County,
·    6. Coffeyville,
·    7. South Plains,
·    8. VU,
·    9. Butler, and,
·    10. Central Arizona.

The USTFCCCA National Rankings are generated using the 2016 national descending order lists from Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS). Athletes and relay teams are assigned more points based on how highly they are ranked in their respective events. Each team is assigned a team score based on the sum of its athletes’ point totals.

Play4Kay

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
