VU Trailblazers grab 2nd straight win with 81-61 victory over Elizabethtown Tech

OLNEY, Ill. – Sophomore Justin King’s double-double led the Vincennes University Men’s Basketball Team to its second consecutive victory Saturday night at the Olney Central Rotary Classic in Olney, IL.

The Trailblazers topped Elizabethtown Tech, 81-61, behind King’s game-high 18 points, plus 10 rebounds. VU (2-2) also got 14 points from sophomore Stuart Jackson, nine from freshman Jordan Manse and eight points each from freshmen Calvin Kintu and Dainius Chatkevicius. In addition, sophomore Makur Puou pulled down 12 rebounds while Kintu and freshman Jeremiah Bell both dished out six assists.

Sophomore Joziah Stinson led the Barons with 17 points.

The Trailblazers will return to action Tuesday, hosting Indian Hills at about 7 p.m. at the VU P.E. Complex. The game will follow the VU women hosting Lindsey Wilson at 5 p.m.

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.

Trailblazer Scholarship fund - The VU foundation awarded $970,242.80 scholarship dollars of the VU Foundation and University funds for the 2017-18 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  These included awards to students from 8 states across the country and 3 international awards.

The VU Foundation currently manages over 525 scholarship and department funds, with 247 news funds created in just the last 9 years.
