VU Volleyball notches 16th win with several contributors playing key roles

The Vincennes University Volleyball Team topped visiting Kaskaskia, 3-1, Thursday at the VU P.E. Complex to improve to 16-3 on the season.
The Trailblazers defeated the Blue Angels by scores of 25-16, 26-24, 18-25, 25-18. Statistical highlights for VU included sophomore Jordan Sprinkle's 13 kills, as well as 12 each for sophomore Kassidie Hayes and freshman Gabrielle Medrado and 10 kills for freshman Genesis Milisde. Also, Milisde recorded a team-high 25 assists and freshman Cali Topolski chipped in with 20. Freshman Hannah Bullock finished with 13 digs with support from 10 digs each by sophomore Kaeli James, Milisde and freshman Abigail Bergman. Freshman Erica Kik paced the Trailblazers with four blocks and Medrado turned in three blocks. In the first set, VU used a 9-2 run late in the set to pull away from Kaskaskia for the opening win. The second set was tight throughout the entire way with Kaskaskia being up 23-20 at one point. But the Trailblazers didn't give in and clawed their way back to tie it at 24- all on a Hayes kill before scoring two unanswered points for the win that put them up 2-0. Set No. 3 was marked by VU trailing the whole way and Blue Angels closed it out with four straight points. The fourth set saw the Trailblazers get out front and never relinquish the lead en route to the deciding score. VU jumps right back into action Friday with a road trip to Lake Land in Mattoon, IL. That match is set to begin at 7 p.m. "Vincennes time."

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
