VU Volleyball to honor sophomores prior to tonight’s match; Trailblazers saying thank you to Armando, Burgess, Carrico, Comer and Wray

The Vincennes University Volleyball Team will honor its five sophomores tonight prior to the Trailblazers’ 7 p.m. match vs. Lincoln Trail at the VU P.E. Complex.

VU (14-16) will say thank you to Juma Armando, Brianna Burgess, Lyndsey Carrico, Lauren Comer and Morgan Wray in the regular season finale.

The Trailblazers will also use tonight’s match to try to generate awareness of the nationwide Autism Speaks initiative. VU Coach Stephanie Armstrong said everyone is encouraged to wear blue tonight to support autism awareness and research fundraising.

VU enters tonight’s action coming off a 1-1 trip at the Kankakee Tri-Match. The Trailblazers topped host Kankakee, 3-2, and dropped a 1-3 decision to Harper.

In the match-up with Kankakee, Armando had 21 kills and Burgess recorded 43 assists to pace VU. Freshmen Kaeli James and Jordan Sprinkle contributed 14 and 11 kills, respectively, while freshman Lauren Charlton chipped in with 15 assists.

Armando finished with 11 kills and freshman Lindsey Persico had 10 in the setback to Harper. Burgess had 21 assists.

VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
