VU Women’s Cross Country retains spot in NJCAA Div. I National Top 10; Trailblazer men move up to 17th in Week 2 rankings

NEW ORLEANS – A fourth place finish at the recent Indiana Intercollegiate Championships kept the Vincennes University Women’s Cross Country Team in the national Top 10 in this week’s NJCAA Div. I Cross Country National Coaches’ Polls. The latest rankings were released earlier today by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The Trailblazer women sit in ninth place today, while the VU men – who were seventh in their race at the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships – are 17th in their poll.

Iowa Central is atop both the men’s and women’s rankings this week. The ICC men were in the No. 1 position last week as well; the ICC women moved up from No. 2 in last week’s poll. The rest of the women’s Top 10 is as follows:
No. 2        El Paso,
No. 3        Lansing,
No. 4        Central Arizona,
No. 5        Mesa,
No. 6        Cowley County,
No. 7        Gillette,
No. 8        Allen,
NO. 9       VU, and,
No. 10      South Plains.

Following Iowa Central on the men’s side this week are:
No. 2        Central Arizona,
No. 3        Gillette,
No. 4        South Plains,
No. 5        Butler,
No. 6        Allen,
No. 7        Lansing,
No. 8        Louisburg,
No. 9        Mesa, and,
No. 10      North Iowa Area.

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.

Trailblazer Scholarship fund - The VU foundation awarded $970,242.80 scholarship dollars of the VU Foundation and University funds for the 2017-18 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  These included awards to students from 8 states across the country and 3 international awards.

The VU Foundation currently manages over 525 scholarship and department funds, with 247 news funds created in just the last 9 years.
