VU women’s Cross Country team climbs as men’s team slides in latest poll

VINCENNES, Ind. – The Vincennes University men’s and women’s Cross Country teams each held spots in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) coaches poll this week.

The VU women’s team continues to climb in the rankings, moving up one spot from last week to #9 ahead of next weekend’s Regionals.

The Vincennes women’s team jumps up one spot in the polls after a strong one-two finish by sophomores Meagan Moreno and Kyra Young in the Heartland CC Classic on October 9th in Normal, Ill., leading the women’s team to a second-place finish.

The Trailblazer men’s team dropped in the rankings, but still hold strong at #17 this week, following VU’s runner-up finish at the Heartland CC Classic on October 9th.

The Blazer men’s team was led by sophomore Nick Vogt and freshman Trenton Faulkner, who finished 6th and 8th In Normal just under two weeks ago.

The Vincennes Cross Country teams now turn their attention to the NJCAA Regional 24 Cross Country Championships, which VU is hosting at South Knox High School, on October 31.

Following Regionals, the Blazers will likely head to the NJCAA Cross Country and Half-Marathon Championships in Fort Dodge, Iowa on Saturday, November 14 and Tuesday November 17 respectively.

VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
