VUXC Men Impress at Walt Crawford Open

Charleston, Illinois – The Vincennes University Men’s Cross Country team had a very impressive opening meet at the Walt Crawford Open hosted by Eastern Illinois. The team nearly put the entire top 7 under the 28 minute mark in just their first competition of the 2017 season.

Freshman Marcus Graham was the first trailblazer to break the finishing tape yesterday. Graham clocked a finishing time of 26:20, and finished 16th overall. Other Trailblazers with big performances included: Sophomore Evan Franklin in 26:36, Sophomore Hunter Ingle in 26:43, Freshman Seth Vaquero in 27:17, Freshman Atlantis Green in 27:29, Freshman Jacob Adams in 27:46, and Freshman Caleb Phillips in 28:04.

Coach Blake Albrecht said after the meet, “I was REALLY impressed with the guys. We packed up for the first 4,000 meters of the race, and then gave them the green light the last half. So the fact that several of them were able to run so fast off of just over 2 miles of racing is great. We ran in packs, we raced people, and we did all of the things that will lead to continued success later in the season.”

The Vincennes University Men’s Cross Country team will be back in action on Friday, September 15th at the Indiana Intercollegiates meet hosted by Purdue University. First race is set to start at 3:15 p.m. EST. Go VU!
