Wissel and Gossmann Make Commitments as to Where to Play After VU

The early signing period for the NCAA Early Signing Period for college
baseball started this week.  For Vincennes University Baseball, that means
two student athletes, RHP Austin Gossmann and RHP Pete Wissel have made
commitments as to where they will play in the 2017-2018 season.

Sophomore RHP Austin Gossmann (5’10 175) will play at the University of
South Alabama in Moblie, Alabama.  Austin is a redshirt sophomore who is
coming off a very good 2016 spring.  He made 14 appearances starting 4
games and had a 4 win – 2 loss record and 1 save.  In 42.1 innings pitched
he gave up 41 hits walked 18 and struck out 46 batters.   Austin comes from
Avon HS in Avon, Indiana.

“I chose South Alabama because I believe it was the best fit.  The warm
weather was a huge plus but the opportunity of it all was the biggest
thing.  When my career is over, I want to look back and say I did
everything I could to keep playing this game.  From a pitching philosophy I
really clicked with Coach Keller and felt as if I could continue to get
better and it was an opportunity I could not pass up.  As for Vincennes
University I can say that it will go down as one of the best decisions of
my life.  Coach Barney gave me the opportunity to come and make something
of myself.  Along with the coaching staff and the close knit group of guys
have all contributed to my success and pushed me.  I have improved
significantly since I arrived in 2014 and  without Vincennes University and
the baseball program I would not be in the position I am in today and for
that I am extremely grateful” Austin Gossmann.

Sophomore RHP Pete Wissel (6’1, 170) will play at the University of
Southern Indiana in Evansville, Indiana.  Pete served as the number #2
starter last year’s rotation.  He made 14 appearances starting 12 games and
had 6 win and 7 loss record.  He threw 66.2 innings allowing 65 hits and 36
walks and struck out 60.  He threw 2 complete games and had one shut out.
Pete comes from Moreland, Indiana and played his prep baseball at Blue
River Valley HS.

“I chose the University of Southern Indiana because it felt like a great
fit.  It stood out to me for all it has to offer.  USI’s coaching staff
made feel wanted and made me want to go there by how they strive for
greatness and have a winning mindset and tradition.  VU has been a great
experience.  I have nothing but good things to say about my experiences
with the school and baseball program.  Vincennes University has given me
all of the tools necessary to get me where I am today” Pete Wissel.

“The Vincennes University family is very excited for both Austin and Pete.
They have really developed over the last two years and not only been able
to contribute to last year’s success on the field but are very good
students in the classroom.  They will very tough to replace after this year
but looking forward to having for them 2017 spring season and expecting
that both will be major contributors to this season’ success.”  Chris
Barney Head Baseball Coach.
