September 6, 2016 / Find out what it's like to be in an earthquake
VINCENNES, Ind. - On Sept. 8-10, the Quake Cottage earthquake simulator will allow the public and Vincennes University students to experience what it is like to be in an earthquake.
On Sept. 8 the Quake Cottage will be located in the parking lot adjacent to VU's Green Activities Center. Members of the public and groups of VU students may participate in the experience from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (EDT). Moving to Grouseland, adjacent to VU's Green Activities Center, the Quake Cottage will open at 1 p.m. on Sept. 9 and 10 as part of the Knox County Torch Relay Bicentennial Celebration.
The Indiana Geological Survey (IGS) is beginning Year 5 of its Quake Cottage, an earthquake education program for citizens of Indiana. Funded in partnership with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, the program promotes earthquake preparedness education in Indiana. The Quake Cottage mimics the shaking experienced during earthquakes having magnitudes up to 7.0.
