VINCENNES, Ind. - Tours of Vincennes University’s Updike Hall Center for Science, Engineering, and Mathematics will be available to the public during the afternoon on August 16.

Updike Hall is located at 1251 N. Chestnut Street with parking available nearby, across from the adjacent Physical Education Complex and also behind the Indiana Center for Applied Technology.

The tours will begin following an 11:30 a.m. (EDT) dedication ceremony that will feature remarks from Dr. Susan V. Olesik, VU ’74, chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Ohio State University. Olesik, who is a member of the VU Board of Trustees, will speak about preparing for rewarding careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Other speakers include VU President Chuck Johnson and William E. Updike, VU ’68, who together with his family donated $2 million for the project, citing his appreciation to VU for his successful career as president and owner of CMA Supply Company.

The three-story Updike Hall features six chemistry labs, five biology labs, three earth science labs, and five physics and engineering labs; complementing smart classroom technology, computer labs, and dynamic tutoring space. Completed at a cost of $25 million, the building includes 85,740 square feet that incorporates green guidelines to maximize energy efficiency and indoor environmental quality.

Contractors for the building include Krempp Construction, Jasper, general construction; AAA Electric, Terre Haute, electrical construction; and B&S Plumbing and Heating, Terre Haute, mechanical construction. Gibraltar Design, Inc., Indianapolis, was the project architect, and Kerns Excavating, Bicknell, did the site preparation.
