VINCENNES, Ind.  – Representatives of Nanjing Technical Vocational College in Nanjing, Jiangsu, China and Vincennes University signed an articulation agreement on Jan. 13 that will allow Nanjing students to pursue a baccalaureate degree in technology at VU.

“We look forward to working collaboratively with Nanjing Technical Vocational College,” said Dr. Laura Treanor, VU Provost and Vice President of Instructional Services/Dean of Faculty. “We’re excited to receive their students and begin working toward a partnership that we believe will be mutually beneficial.”

The Nanjing delegation included Dr. Shen Jin, Associate President and Provost; Qi Yang, Director of Admissions and Associate Professor; and Feng Jun, College Teacher, Lecturer and Interpreter.

The University welcomed the honored guests to VU as part of a four-day itinerary, Jan. 12-15, that includes a signing ceremony, tours of multiple VU campuses, and visits to historical sites.

“Our faculty and staff have reviewed their curriculum and we are confident in the quality of graduates produced by NTVC,” VU President Chuck Johnson said. “Like VU, NTVC has significant emphasis on technical middle-skill type careers. NTVC also believes as VU does in hands-on learning.”

The partnership sets up a framework for VU that should be useful in developing further collaborations with other higher education institutions in China.

“This is the first articulation in China that we’ve had for the baccalaureate programs,” Johnson said. “This is a starting point and I think there will be more ways for us to collaborate. We look forward to a long and successful partnership.”

In addition to the technology bachelor’s degree, Vincennes University offers bachelor’s degree programs in homeland security and public safety, nursing, secondary education programs in mathematics and science, and special education/elementary education. The University also offers a variety of associate degree and certificate programs.
