Henry Steckler was looking for options.

Vincennes University provided the perfect option to achieve his dream of enrolling in Purdue University’s College of Engineering. VU has a transfer agreement with Purdue’s College of Engineering – DIRECT ADMIT. If VU engineering associate degree graduates meet specified criteria, they are directly admitted to Purdue.

VU’s articulation agreement with Purdue offers an avenue for VU engineering students.  It was the exact pathway to a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering that Steckler was seeking having been admitted to Purdue, but not its famed engineering school.

“I didn’t really like the idea of coming to Purdue and possibly not getting in. So I looked at other options and I ran across the VU articulation agreement. I figured I’d go to a bigger university, but I toured campus and met with a professor, and I had good experience.”

The St. Henry, Indiana native selected VU because of the distinct transfer opportunity. There are a variety of other reasons why he embraced the idea of spending his first two years at VU.

“I was close to home. I thought it would be a good fit for me to start out.  My overall goal was to get that ME degree. I tried to find a way to make it a little smoother plus I saved a lot of money, and that was really nice.”

VU was a great fit for Steckler. He obtained a 3.93 grade point average, received an associate degree in Engineering Science from VU in 2017 and met the necessary criteria to transfer to Purdue’s College of Engineering. He graduated from Purdue with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2019.

“A lot of people ask me if I was prepared going in to Purdue and I always tell them, “Yes”.

“At VU, the learning was pretty focused with smaller classes. A lot of the professors had been there for a while when I was there. They knew the concepts well.”
