Open Enrollment 2019

Dear VU Employee:

I hope this letter finds you well and anticipating the upcoming holiday season. The following information summarizes the changes for VU's Health Care Plan beginning January 1, 2019 and to announce the Open Enrollment dates of October 29 - November 9, 2018. Please remember Open Enrollment is the only opportunity for employees to make changes to their benefit elections for 2019 plan year without a qualifying life event (e.g. marriage, death, divorce, birth of a child). This is also the only time during the year to enroll in voluntary benefit plans such as HRI Dental, VSP Vision, and the Flexible Spending Account

At VU, we recognize that our group health insurance coverage is a key component of our total compensation package. Over the years we have attempted to preserve the value of that coverage. Our goal, as always, is to minimize the costs of premiums and changes in coverage. This year the University paid out $1 million more in health care claims than was collected through employee premiums by our self-funded health insurance plan. Although we utilize Anthem to process our healthcare claims, Vincennes University pays every medical expense through the premiums that we collect from each of you. Therefore, as members of VU's plan, we are all responsible for one another's healthcare expenses. It is more important now than ever before that we all utilize every resource available to promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage our fellow colleagues to do the same. For example, the Care & Cost Finder tool, available on your Anthem member page, will allow you to search and compare cost and quality measures for in-network doctors in your neighborhood. Utilizing tools like this one will allow us all to do our part to keep our health care costs down. Our focus, as always, is on premium quality with controlled cost. While there will be no changes to deductibles, co-pays, out-of-pocket maximums or prescription drug co-pays, there will be a modest increase in the medical premiums beginning January 2019, with the possibility of an additional increase mid-year. The premiums for Active Employees are as follows:

The VU Employee Wellness Program continues to be an integral part of the University's efforts to invest in the health and well-being of our employees. Click here for the 2019 Wellness Program Flyer for access to a convenient calendar of screening dates.

The 2019 tobacco-user surcharge will remain $35 bi-weekly. All employees enrolled in VU's healthcare plan must certify annually whether you and/or your spouse (if the spouse is covered by VU's plan) use tobacco products or are tobacco-free. Please refer to the Instructions for Electronic Signature of Tobacco Affidavit for assistance in completing your Tobacco Affidavit. Once the Affidavit has been completed, you will receive a confirmation email in your preferred email account. The deadline to complete this Affidavit is Friday, November 9, 2018 by 4pm for the 2019 plan year. If the online certification is not completed, the surcharge will be automatically applied effective January 1, 2019 and will remain in place for the 2019 plan year.

If you have any questions related to Open Enrollment or VU Benefits, please contact Chris Gardner, VU's Benefits Coordinator, at 812.888.5847 or cgardner@vinu.edu
