Trailblazer Volleyball Wins Nail-Biter over #20 Des Moines Area

Champaign, IL – In the first game of the Parkland Tournament, the Lady Trailblazers won a hard-fought match in 5 sets: 25-13, 23-25, 25-23, 18-25, 15-13 over the #20 ranked NJCAA DII Des Moines Area Community College Bears.

The Lady Blazers outlasted the Bears in their first game to move past 4-sets this season. The win moves Vincennes University to 14-and-2 on the season, and an undefeated 4-and-0 against NJCAA DII Teams this season.

“We really battled through a tough, competitive match. The key moving forward is to sustain a high level of play from beginning to end. Our middle attack was the key, with both middles hitting a combined hitting percentage of nearly 300%.”, Said Coach Gary Sien after the game.

The Trailblazers had some huge numbers in the stats column after their first match at the Parkland Tournament. Gabrielle Medrado did it all for the Trailblazers this afternoon. Medardo tallied 39 assists, 9 digs, and 2 aces. Sophomore Genesis Milisde, Sophomore Erica Kik, and Freshman Baylee Lippincott all recorded double-digit with kills with 10, 10, and 11 respectively. Freshman Mackenzie Haworth also 9 kills. Sophomores Hannah Bullock and Abby Bigler joined Medrado in the digs column with 17 and 8. Finally, Yasmene Leath & Genesis Millisde each recorded 3 blocks a-piece, while Erica Kik totaled 6.

The Lady Trailblazers will look to continue their winning ways this evening at 6 p.m. against #6 in NJCAA DII Illinois Central! Go VU!

We Believe Sports

National Junior College Athletic Association Logo

At VU, we believe sports play an important role in the overall purpose of an educational institution. We support a well-rounded intercollegiate sports program for both men and women and have a strong presence in the NJCAA where we can claim several national championships. But we are equally proud of our individual All-American and All-American Academic athletes who have used their talent to continue their education at four-year colleges.
