Mining Program Director (Business & Industry) – Ft. Branch, IN

Full-time

Vincennes University is seeking applicants for a Mining Program Director. This is a full-time professional staff position located in Fort Branch, IN.

 

Vincennes University's Mining and Safety Program provides training for incumbent worker miners, job seeking miners, and those who work in other fields but perform their duties in the mine setting across the State of Indiana. Workers involved in surface and underground mining of metal and non-metal materials are required by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) to undergo extensive and ongoing safety training, and VU's program provides the training and related certification according to Federal regulations.

This position is responsible for:

  • Direct the Program to achieve the goals and objectives of the MSHA State Grants Program for Indiana
  • Train miners and contractors under Part 48 and Part 46 as required
  • Supervise roster of adjunct instructors and support staff
  • Manage the MSHA grant to ensure compliance with MSHA grant guidelines
  • Direct and develop training resources from program instructors to implement in the classroom
  • Apply MSHA training regulations and policies to the decision-making process regarding compliance training requests from mining companies and contractors
  • Coordinate and schedule students for New Miner Training, Refresher classes, Electrical Classes, First Aid Training, etc.
  • Work closely with mining community, Joseph A Holmes Safety Association, Indiana Mine Rescue Association, Indiana Coal Council, Indiana Mineral Aggregates Association, and MSHA (active leadership or membership on an above association is preferred)
  • Maintain and update program website, with the assistance of support staff
  • Be responsible for all fiscal tracking, expense monitoring, and budget development in
  • accordance with VU and Grant policies
  • Monitor the collection, recording, and deposit of all fees received
  • Active Membership on advisory committees and relevant associations, as deemed appropriate by Business and Industry Director
  • Some travel required

Successful candidates will have:

  • Bachelor Degree directly related to mining is required, Master's Degree preferred.Minimum of ten years working in the mining field, required
  • Experience as manager or supervisor required, with a Grant Program or MSHA program preferred
  • Certified as an approved MSHA instructor under CFR Title 30, Part 48
  • Excellent organization and recordkeeping skills
  • Effective interpersonal/communication skills, and a proven record of networking
  • Excellent grammar and spelling skills
  • Computer knowledge - specifically in advanced Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email

  Transcript Evaluator (MEP) – Vincennes, IN

Full-time

 

Vincennes University’s Military Education Program is seeking applications for the position of Transcript Evaluator. This is a full-time position.

 

Position Summary

Evaluate and process military student’s formal military training and experience based on the recommendations of the American Council on Education. Evaluate and process official college transcripts based upon articulated credit and University policies and procedures.

 

The position has responsibilities such as:

 

  • Process MEP student military experience documentation to award college credit based on the American Council on Education’s recommendations.

  • Possess a clear knowledge of University courses, programs, academic standards and requirements.

  • Process incoming MEP student college transcripts per University policy and input transfer credit on to the Banner system.

  • Communicate with the Registrar’s Office regularly to ensure continuity between the Extended Studies Division and Office of the Registrar.

  • Communicate with MEP sites and military installations concerning student issues related to military experience evaluations and college transcript evaluations.

  • Prepare and submit SOC agreements electronically.

  • Communicate and work as a liaison to Academic Divisions to ensure the expedient processing of college transcripts.

  • Ability to work independently and utilize critical thinking skills when developing degree plans for deployed and deployable military servicemembers.

  • Ability to travel is necessary to participate in ongoing site specific training and conferences.

  • Help to maintain a highly efficient and organized office environment, to include but not limited to: providing accurate information on phone, via email, and in person to the public; maintaining confidentiality in the work environment; helping to create and maintain files and systems of organization both electronically and via hard copy; basic computing; meeting deadlines associated with the academic calendar and University policies.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director.

     

The successful qualified candidate has:

 

  • Bachelor Degree, required.

  • Proficient in Windows XP environment, Internet applications, Microsoft Office 2000, Publisher and Banner SCT.

  • Ability to learn and proficiently apply a variety of computer applications specific to the work environment.

  • Experience working with military personnel.

  • Experience in busy office environment, multitasking.

  • Ability to maintain orderly work environment, overall excellent organizational skills.

  • Experience working with diverse clientele

  • Quick learner, ability to mentally organize, create solutions “on the spot” as well as long-term.

  • Understanding of academic degree requirements and a knowledge of requirements for degree completion

CTE Early Site Manager (Area 31) – Indianapolis, IN

Vincennes University is seeking applicants for CTE Early College Site Manager position at Area 31 Career Center – Indianapolis, IN.

This is a full-time, professional staff position. Vincennes University is seeking candidates with excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. The CTE Early College Site manager has a critical role in serving as a resource for faculty, staff, and parents at the Career Center Site and developing collegial relationships with faculty and staff in Vincennes University system.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Direct oversight of the Vincennes University curriculum at the Career

    Center site

  • Facilitate credentialing process for Career Center faculty

  • Manage the daily operations of the Early College office

  • Supervise VU office support staff at site

  • Provide educational programs promoting Vincennes University and Early

    College initiatives for students, parents and others

  • Collect and analyze pertinent dual credit data as requested

  • Oversee MyFoundationsLab and Accuplacer programs

  • Academic oversight and tracking of Early College student progress

  • Conduct individual student academic audits;

  • Maintain all student records including graduation audits and disciplinary

    action records for Early College students

  • Assist faculty in obtaining course instructional materials; training on

    Banner and other VU programs

  • Serve as an active member of the Career Center team

  • Student engagement and community building

  • Lead recruitment of students for all Early College and other VU programs

  • Participate in all Early College, Dual Credit and VU community events

  • Active participant in residential summer programming for Early College

  • Active participant on pertinent advisory board councils

  • Attend CTE transfer school meetings and events

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with Secondary Education and CTE credentials

  • Minimum of two years administrative work experience

  • Masters Degree with Career Readiness experience preferred

  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and

    demonstrated effectiveness in interacting with, faculty, staff, colleagues, parents and students

  • Effective leadership and decision-making skills
