Participation in fitness activities is widely recognized as an important component in overall health and wellness as people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities strive for optimum performance levels. Vincennes University's Wellness and Exercise program provides the first two years of education for a career in scientific aspects of sport and human performance.
Students will gain competencies and skills essential for basic exercise leadership, supervision in physical fitness/wellness or health promotion programs.
A Two-Year Program Leading to the A.S. Degree
This program is a specialization for students who wish to pursue an exercise science/physical fitness related career. Upon completion, students may transfer to a selected baccalaureate institution. Potential employment settings include fitness/wellness centers; health clubs; community, employee and institutional exercise programs; as well as laboratory, clinical and military settings with an advanced degree and/or additional training. The Exercise degree is designed to prepare students with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities needed for certification preparation by several accredited professional organizations such as the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the American Council of Exercise (ACE), the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), and the National Strength and Conditioning Associations (NSCA).
