VU Inclement Weather Policies and Procedures

It’s that time of year, and we would like to remind you of Vincennes University’s weather-related procedures. VU closely monitors the forecasts and conditions.

In the event of a closure or delay, the best way to stay abreast of weather-related delays, closings, and work status is by signing into MyVU/VUX and looking under Announcements.

Students should check the following sources for information: MyVU/VUX or Facebook, broadcast media, or the University’s e-alert system, RAVE. Employees should consult MyVU/VUX to determine the status of their campus or location. Students, faculty, and staff should check back often for updates. All efforts will be made to determine and communicate by 5:30 a.m. (ET) any morning-related weather delays or cancellations.

Please review all announcements carefully. VU may announce closings for the University as a whole or for specific campuses, centers, or sites. VU sends its delay and closure notices to both television and radio stations in a wide area including Terre Haute and Evansville. You may refer to local stations near our campuses and sites, however University-affiliated information systems will have more complete information.

The Housing and Residential Life Office identifies emergency spaces on the Vincennes Campus for students in the case of inclement weather. In the event weather prevents commuting students from being able to travel home, the Vincennes Campus will provide FREE emergency accommodations. All students should report to the front desk of Vigo Hall. Separate wings have been identified for males and females. These accommodations will provide students with a place to stay until they can travel safely. VU encourages students to travel with a small overnight bag, a blanket, pillow, change of clothes, toiletries, and a phone charger, etc. in case they find they cannot travel home safely due to inclement weather. If students have any questions or concerns about securing emergency housing, they should contact the main housing office at 812-888-4225. If they have questions after normal business hours, they should call the Vigo Hall front desk directly at 812-888-5500.

In the case of inclement weather, students, faculty, and staff are reminded to use caution, make good decisions before venturing out, and allow extra time to reach their destination.
