When I was a teenager, I moved out of my parents’ house and decided not to finish school. I’m a free spirit and chose to do what I wanted. Now that I’m more mature and have a daughter depending on me, I see things differently. I have responsibilities, and they’re more important than having freedom and doing what I want all the time.
I knew a big, responsible step in life would be to earn my HSE. My daughter was my main motivation. When she grows up, I want her to be proud of me and know she can do anything she sets her mind to. I started to work toward my HSE right before she was born in July 2020 and then started in-person classes in October.
I took the HSE test in November and passed all subjects! Having my HSE makes me more confident in myself because I thought that I couldn’t do it, but I obviously did it. My daughter will be able to see that because I did it, she can do it.
I used to really lack confidence, but I have recently gained more. Earning my diploma has helped with this because now I have more opportunities and can go to college if I choose to. I am also grateful that I have my parents’ support in whatever I do.
My goal is to become a CNA and then save up money to buy a house. I would really love to build a house on my parents’ property.
My advice to others is, “Just do it! If you try, you’re more likely to succeed. If you fail, it’s okay- just try again!”
We are proud of you, Diane!! You worked hard, and your diploma is well-deserved! Congratulations!!
