April 14, 2019 / Trailblazer track and field stands out amongst NCAA Division I competition

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -  Vincennes University track and field athletes competed at the University of Illinois Illini Twilight meet on Saturday and finished with several strong performances against a mostly NCAA Division I field.

The Trailblazers placed ninth out of 14 in the men’s team standings with 27 points. The top three teams were Illinois (158), Marquette (103) and Eastern Illinois (61).

Trailblazer freshman Max Kiplagat placed third in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9 minutes 25.31 seconds.

Fellow freshman Silas Ristl earned a pair of fourth-place finishes in the men’s throwing events. He took fourth in the shot put with an effort of 16.75 meters (54-11.50). He threw 48.67 meters (159-8) in the discus for fourth.

Sophomore Tony Cappola placed fifth in the men’s pole vault. He vaulted 4.55 meters (14-11).

In the men’s 400-meter hurdles, freshman Kevon Louis took seventh in 57.48 seconds.

The Trailblazers went 7-8 in the men’s hammer throw. Sophomore Alfred Stubbs took seventh. He threw 46.46 meters (152-5). Sophomore James Smith finished eighth with a throw of 43.77 meters (143-7).

Freshman David McCullough placed eighth in the men’s 400-meter run. He crossed the finish line in 49.97 seconds.

Freshman Milan Todorovic finished eighth in the men’s 800-meter run in 1:54.67.

In the women’s division, VU sophomore Jazzmine Poole earned eighth in the discus. She threw 39.36 meters (129-2).

The Trailblazers return to action on Saturday at the Indiana Intercollegiate Little State Track and Field Championships at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana.
