Child Development

Available on the Vincennes Campus

If you enjoy working with preschool children, then your enrollment in Vincennes University's CHILD DEVELOPMENT program could be the first step to a rewarding career.  This Associate degree program prepares you to own or operate your own home-based child care business or work in a day care or preschool in an administrative or teaching position.  The curriculum also provides a solid basis for further study in child development & family life, child care administration, or early childhood education.

The program will provide you with the opportunity to work directly with children at Head Start, the KCARC Civitan Children’s Center and licensed home-based day centers--providing valuable work experience.   As a part of your course work, you will prepare developmentally appropriate lesson plans and creative activities for children.  You will also learn how to establish your own child care business, covering areas such as licensing, staffing, and budgeting.

VU is Indiana’s First College and continues to be Indiana’s most affordable residential college.  At VU you will be given individual attention and have the advantage of small classes and labs, free tutoring, and excellent course transferability. Vincennes University has a long history of successful graduates in child development.    If you are interested in a career in child development, Vincennes University is a great place to start!

"Campus location, classroom size, hands-on activities, transferable courses and work experience are just some of the reasons that I made the decision to attend Vincennes University for CHILD DEVELOPMENT.  I love that all the professors are very professional, but are also very understandable and will work one-on-one with you. Your academic advisors work their very best to get you into the core classes that work best with your schedule and give you the experience that you need to succeed, not only in the classroom, but in life, too!  I would recommend these courses to anyone who is willing to make a difference in a young child's life."--Famie Cox, 2017 A.S. Degree in Child Development
