I began my teaching career as a middle and high school teacher in urban Kansas City. After teaching in Kansas City, I moved to Chicago and began tutoring and teaching at a community college in the city. Now I’m here at VU where I teach English 008, Humanities 102, English 079, and English 101.

I’ve taught in many places, but no matter where I am teaching, my philosophy is always the same: to give students concrete tools to become better writers while ensuring they have autonomy, choices, and a say. Writing is difficult because it can be subjective, so I aim to make writing more objective for my students with these tools. In addition, I help my students identify their strengths and weaknesses as writers.
