DEAR STUDENT LETTER

DEAR STUDENT LETTER

DEAR STUDENTS,

On March 23rd, Vincennes University modified its instructional delivery and operations to safeguard the health and well-being of its students, faculty, staff and community due to the COVID-19 outbreak.   We know that none of this is easy and we write to share some important information, resources and dates.

STUDENT SUPPORT INITIATIVE

We are here to support you in this new learning environment.  Please email any questions or problems you have to KEEPLEARNING@VINU.EDU. Our staff members will work to find the answer to your question or the best solution to your problem.

VIRTUAL TUTORING

To assist you with your coursework, VU tutoring services have been moved to a virtual format. Any VU student can make an appointment through their MyVU. Step-by-step instructions can be found on the LEARNING SUPPORT SERVICES website.

GRADING OPTIONS

The VU academic leadership team is working hard to identify potential flexible grading options to provide students and faculty during this time of transition. VU is considering how potential grading options might impact program requirements, transferability, professional licensure, and other factors. We are committed to finding a solution that works best for VU students and faculty alike. Once a decision is made, it will be shared widely through a variety of communication channels. Stay tuned!

BLACKBOARD COLLABORATE

This convenient collaborative tool has been added to the Blackboard shell for each of your classes. This tool is designed for online teaching and allows you to interact with your instructor and peers in real time. Your instructors are holding office hours using Collaborate and are ready and waiting to answer your questions and offer assistance.

TIPS FOR SUCCESS IN AN ONLINE ENVIRONMENT

  • Review your syllabus and develop a plan for completing your assignments on time.
  • Make a daily “To Do” list and check off items as you complete them.
  • Keep a routine schedule for course time, study time and free time.
  • Find a quiet space to work without distractions from roommates, television or family.
  • Avoid games and apps, they drain your time and your battery.
  • Use the communication preference of your instructor.  Some prefer email, discussion boards or office hours.
  • Take advantage of the office hours your instructor offers.

Thank you for your patience as we work to prioritize the safety of our community and the academic quality we all value.

We offer our best regards and deepest appreciation to each of you,

Dr. Laura J. Treanor, Provost

Ms. Lynn White, Assistant Provost for Student Affairs
