High school students enjoy fun activities on VU Science Fridays

It’s Friday morning, and goggle-wearing high school students from Indiana and Illinois measure, mix, and stir ingredients over a hot plate in a Vincennes University chemistry laboratory. They are learning to formulate soap and beauty cream. While they stir and mix, they learn the chemistry behind soapmaking and beauty cream as a part of Science Fridays, fun and educational days hosted by the Vincennes University College of Science, Engineering, and Mathematics.

Five Indiana mayors were VU Trailblazers at same time

In 1976, five Vincennes University students were transforming their futures and studying law enforcement, broadcast production technology, business, and more. They were living the lives of college students: studying, living in residence halls, and hanging out with friends, but their paths never really crossed. Two were even residing on the same floor of Harrison Hall but did not know each other. Decades later, their lives converged in unbelievable circumstances.

VU to commemorate 9/11 anniversary with flag tribute

VU Homeland Security and Public Safety students are holding their annual 9/11 Flag Ceremony on Monday, Sept. 11, at 5 p.m. (ET) on the Vincennes Campus. The Eta Sigma Iota student club will create a memorial tribute and place 3,000 flags in remembrance of those who lost their lives during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and rescue efforts.

Red Skelton Museum receives major donation to build Lothian and Red Skelton Gallery of Fine Art

The Red Skelton Museum Foundation Board of Directors proudly announces the Skelton Estate has pledged a generous gift of $4 million to the Vincennes University Foundation. The magnificent donation will create the Lothian and Red Skelton Gallery of Fine Art in honor of Lothian Skelton’s late husband, world-famous comedian and Vincennes native Red Skelton.

JAG high school students experience college life at VU

High school students often wonder what college is really like. A group of Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) students from throughout Indiana had an extraordinary opportunity to take college for a test drive recently, enjoying a week living the life of students at Vincennes University. Students at the fifth annual VU JAG Summer Academy immersed themselves in the college experience on the Vincennes Campus.

VU Board of Trustees approves Red Skelton Museum expansion, swears in new Trustee

The Vincennes University Board of Trustees on Wednesday, Aug. 23, voted to accept a generous gift commitment of $4 million from Lothian Skelton, the widow of famous comedian and beloved Vincennes native Red Skelton, which will fund an expansion of the Red Skelton Museum of American Comedy located on the Vincennes Campus.

VU hosts U.S. senator and discussion on Indiana’s rapidly-evolving agbioscience economy

U.S. Senator Todd Young of Indiana, Indiana experts, and Hoosier leaders gathered at the Vincennes University Agricultural Center on Wednesday, Aug. 9, for a fireside chat about 21st-century agriculture and the rapid growth Indiana’s agbioscience economy has experienced over the last decade. The discussion was presented by AgriNovus Indiana and VU.
Several VU faculty and staff were invited to the RSPAC stage and saluted for their longtime service to the University.

Major building announcement excites audience at VU Opening Meeting

The dawn of a new academic year brings joy, enthusiasm, and the hope of endless possibilities. Vincennes University faculty and staff gathered at Opening Meeting on Monday, Aug. 7, to kick off the academic year. During Opening Meeting, the University announced the addition of 70,000 square feet of new learning space on the Vincennes Campus with the construction of a $33.9 million ultra-modern Center for Health Sciences and Active Learning.

Golden Opportunity: VU Biology Club takes phenomenal trip to California

From ancient redwood forests to spectacular coastlines to the largest variety of plants and animals of any state in the U.S., California has it all when it comes to nature. The Vincennes University Biology Club has used the summer break to travel to the Golden State, where they immersed themselves in learning about and exploring awe-inspiring ecosystems and habitats. Led by Biology Department Chair and Professor Andrew Corless, the trip was jam-packed with remarkable opportunities.

New VU alum shines in national machining competition

Months after winning a global machining competition with his Vincennes University classmates, Nate Conrad shined in a national competition. The Spring 2023 Precision Machining Technology graduate won a bronze medal at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference held at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

Mind-blowing 3D-printed creations showcased at VU event

3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing, is revolutionizing the manufacturing, aviation, medical, consumer goods, dental, construction, and design industries. As 3D printing continues to grow, so does the demand for qualified professionals familiar with the technology and its capabilities. In partnership with Vincennes University and the H2I Group, the Stratasys World of 3D Printing made a special visit to the Vincennes Campus on Monday, July 10.

VU summer academies inspire youth to study STEM

High school students with a penchant for engineering learned about the bio-physics of the human hand and designed a biomechanical hand using everyday materials like empty Pringle cans. Other students created a TikTok video to teach how to perform hands-only CPR properly. One group of students conducted a physiological analysis to determine how the body’s pulse, blood pressure, reflexes, and breathing rate react to stimuli such as petting a cat or playing an anxiety-inducing game. These are a few of the projects rising juniors and seniors showcased at the Vincennes University Summer STEM Academy June 25-30.

Collaborative robots galore at VU showcase in Lebanon

The Vincennes University Gene Haas Training and Education Center was buzzing with educators taking in all the amazing things collaborative robots can do. To help Career and Technical Early College and high school instructors from across Indiana discover the benefits of the emerging technology, VU hosted a Collaborative Robotics Showcase on June 28 in Lebanon.

VU’s collaborative robot technology gives students a competitive edge

We live in a technology-driven world, and today’s technology is ever-evolving. Self-driving cars are no longer a sci-fi fantasy. AI-powered chatbots are writing books. Vincennes University faculty are diligently keeping up with the fast-paced change and are working to prepare students to become leaders in the use of collaborative robot or “cobot" technology. VU is a national leader in the rapidly growing technology of cobots, and it is shaping the future of students for generations to come by leveraging the University’s state-of-the-art technologies and cutting-edge facilities.

VU’s Xmester and Techmester give high schoolers a glimpse of college life

Build and program robots, write songs about societal issues, design and print 3D objects, create self-portrait collages, and conduct "autopsies" on fetal pigs. These are a few exciting projects that high school students from throughout Indiana participated in while making Vincennes University their home from June 13-16. VU welcomed nearly 350 bright young minds to the Vincennes Campus for its annual Xmester and Techmester residential pre-college programs. Opportunities to engage in hands-on experiences and out-of-the-box thinking surrounded students, and they even earned college credit.
