Central Indiana and Hoosier INFAME Chapters.
We are currently accepting applications for Fall 2024.

The FAME/AMT program is a nationally recognized, industry-driven partnership between Central Indiana manufacturers and Vincennes University. The goal of our program is to create “global best” skilled worker talent to meet the needs of a rapidly growing manufacturing sector. Employers have come together to form two FAME chapters in the Central Indiana region. The Central Indiana Chapter, based in the greater Indianapolis region, includes reputable manufactures such as Major Tool & Machine, 3M, Aero Industries, and Steel Dynamics Inc.  The Hoosier Chapter, based in the Madison/Hamilton/Tipton/Delaware county region, includes Red Gold and Nestle USA. Our two chapters have come together, in partnership with Vincennes University, to construct an Advanced Manufacturing Center for the education of our student technicians. This facility is a high tech, hands-on training facility located on the grounds of the Indianapolis Int’l Airport.

The Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT) program blends classroom and lab instruction with onsite experience.   The AMT program includes a two-year degree in Electronics Technology - General Technology Concentration (ASCT) that combines cutting-edge curriculum, paid working experience, along with learning highly sought-after business principles and best practices of a world-class manufacturer. Interested applicants should complete both the AMT application, as well as the Vincennes University application. Please select the Electronics Technology - General Technology Concentration (ASCT) on your VU application.

Students earn a wage while attending college and gain priceless work experience with a global manufacturing leader. Over two years, students can earn as much as $40,000 in salary, which with planning can cover all of a student’s education expenses. There are also potential grants and financial aid.

While not guaranteed, those graduates hired by an AMT partner have the potential to earn as much as $64,000 yearly, plus excellent benefits. Other manufacturers throughout Indiana and throughout the United States seek professionals with this level of experience and training.  Graduates may continue his/her education to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from Vincennes University or from Purdue Polytechnic in fields such as engineering, technology, or business.  Many AMT Partners offer full time employees tuition assistance, which allows the completion of the BS degree with little or no costs.

The Application Process: Students interested in the AMT program must apply using both the Vincennes University application and the AMT application. The Accuplacer Placement Test must also be taken (Testing Center) . Candidates also need to complete an essay. Once accepted to Vincennes University, AMT partners will review your application and determine which applicants meet the rigorous background requirements. Next, the AMT partnership will interview candidates and select students for the upcoming class. (Note: We are now accepting applications for the Fall 2024. For information regarding the application process, please call 812-888-4812).

If selected as an intern, candidates could start working the summer before classes begin. This work assignment may be located on the production floor, which will assist with the overall knowledge of the plant, company culture, production, and product.

AMT students will attend class two day per week at the Advanced Manufacturing Center, located near the Indianapolis Int’l Airport. Students will work at their respective employer three days of the week. Most AMTs will start at $16/hour while working approximately 24 hours per week. Additional hours may be awarded based on grades, work habits, and employer’s need. Raises may also be given based on grades and performance evaluations.

Once accepted into the AMT program, students experience hands-on learning, attend VU courses, and real work experience continuously until graduation.  Some partners offer paid summer employment prior to starting VU classes.  The entire program lasts six consecutive semesters, including summer sessions.  Example: students starting Fall 2024 are expected to graduate Summer 2026.

Students are responsible for the cost of tuition, labs, and fees at Vincennes University. (Please check the VU website for current tuition rates and fees).  Over the two years, students can earn as much as $40,000 in wages, which with careful planning, can cover all of a student’s education expenses. There are also potential grants and financial aid.
