Art - Pre-Art Therapy Concentration, A.S.

• The program provides a foundation of art experiences placing a strong emphasis on hands-on studio work, providing students with plenty of opportunities to build technical art skills and express their creativity.
• This program also provides a foundation of studies in psychology to help provide an understanding of how art may be used as a diagnostic and therapy tool.
• This program can serve as a stepping stone to a Bachelor’s degree in Art Therapy. More frequently, a bachelor’s degree in Art or Psychology is followed by a master’s degree in Art Therapy.

A degree from Vincennes University’s Art and Design Department in Pre-Art Therapy combines study of art, psychology and general education courses appropriate for transfer to a four-year school where a degree in art, psychology or art therapy is sought. Art therapists are employed in psychiatric hospitals, special education programs, nursing homes, drug abuse agencies, halfway houses, employee assistance programs and in private practice.
